With individual counseling, clients meet with their counselors one-on-one. This is among the most preferred arrangements for many clients as they feel freer to express their feelings, thoughts, and emotions because they can exclusively work with their counselor for the duration of the session. They’ll be talking about factors that may have caused their issues and how to manage or eliminate these factors in their lives. Improving one’s situation is a gradual process. Thus, during sessions, the counselor and client set goals that may be used as a guide for the activities and topics discussed during sessions and even for the clients’ homework before the next session.
